Yoko Taro expressed that Drakengard, his directorial debut, largely fulfilled his creative aspirations at the time. Although he has begun considering retirement, he continues working in game development due to concerns about his cognitive health if he were to stop working.
Yoko Taro discussed this early title at the Japanese gaming event The Tenth Mosaic. He believes that while he did not achieve one hundred percent of his ideals at the time, he did his best to complete Drakengard, pouring his heart and soul into it and accomplishing nearly Everythinggj he set out to do. Despite the widespread attention later received by NieR: Automata, he still regards Drakengard as the work he is most proud of.
Regarding his future work, Yoko Taro stated that he does not wish to maintain a full-time development schedule. He views continuing game development as a personal choice and considers the frustrations of work as one of the reasons that keep him active.
