AMD Plans to Expand FSR 4 to Handhelds by End of 2026, Support for Existing Devices Unclear

AMD plans to expand its machine learning-based FSR 4 technology to handhelds, gaming laptops, and APU product lines by the end of 2026. Jack Huynh, head of AMD's consumer chips division, confirmed this plan but did not specify whether existing handhelds will gain support through updates or if new chips will be required.

AMD计划2026年底前将FSR 4扩展至掌机,现有设备能否支持仍未明确

FSR 4 has previously been primarily targeted at discrete graphics cards. There is currently no clear indication that the lightweight FSR 4 model, intended for upcoming APUs before the end of the year, is specifically designed for handheld devices.

Older Steam Deck models already have ways to achieve FSR 4-like effects, but this does not mean AMD has committed to official support. AMD has previously stated that device support depends on computational power and the quality of the actual user experience.

Valve previously collaborated with AMD to enable FSR 4 support for the Steam Machine's APU, but has not made the same commitment for the Steam Deck. AMD has yet to further clarify the compatibility scope for existing handheld devices.
