Highly Anticipated Indie Soulslike 'Hollow Shell Prison' at the 3i Initiative Game Showcase

Tammy Morley, head of Glass Head Dolls, announced today at the 3i Initiative Games Showcase that Cage of Shells will launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on January 27, 2027. Commenting on the news, Tammy stated: "The journey of developing this game has been incredible. I can't wait to bring it to players around the world, allowing more people to explore and enjoy it."

Cage of Shells is a nostalgic, Soulslike game set in a painted afterlife. In the game, you awaken in Lissian—a heavenly afterlife hand-drawn by a pure heart. Your soul finds a new home here, surrounded only by desolate and eerie sights as the world beneath your feet gradually crumbles. Why has the one who painted all this fallen into eternal slumber? Where is your beloved? She needs you. Go find your beloved.

Face cunning dolls, decaying paint monsters, and other dangerous foes. Their lingering obsessions haunt this place, and you must steel your resolve, igniting the flame within during battle. Build up adrenaline to increase damage; parry with precise timing to find openings for counterattacks. Explore every corner of the world to discover and experiment with a wide array of equipment. Whether it's firearms or magic, you can customize your doll's loadout with Everythinggj from blades to brooches. Each boss presents a new challenge; only by flexibly combining your gear can you defeat the enemies standing in your way.

Cage of Shells draws partial inspiration from the intricate level design of early Soulslike games, aiming to recreate the magical experience of wandering through a perilous yet content-rich world filled with interconnected shortcuts. Uncover secrets in every corner and record them in your journal. With each step forward, you draw closer to your beloved.

Cage of Shells began as a solo project by Tammy Morley, an Indonesian-British developer, who spent several months practicing level design, animation, programming, and game design. The prototype quickly attracted players on itch.io thanks to its satisfying gameplay and mysterious, bizarre world, subsequently receiving full funding from WINGS. The newly updated demo unlocks the first level and the first boss fight of the full version. Compared to the previous demo, combat, visuals, items, enemies, and tutorials have all been improved. This small team also looks forward to hearing player feedback before the game's release.

The demo now supports Simplified Chinese for the first time, alongside English. The full release will support 11 languages, including Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. Cage of Shells will launch on PC and PlayStation 5 on January 27, 2027.

About GLASS HEAD DOLLS:

Glass Head Dolls (GHD) is led by independent developer Tammy Morley. She creates fantasy games with a nostalgic and mysterious atmosphere, hoping to evoke wonder, childlike innocence, and a touch of melancholy in players. Deeply inspired by games from the early 2000s—an era when hardware limitations coexisted with advancing graphics technology, giving rise to a unique visual charm—she uses low-poly modeling and low-resolution textures to craft hazy, charming worlds with distinct atmospheres. After participating in numerous Game Jams and serving as a composer and level designer for Tranzfuser 2022, Tammy collaborated with a few trusted developer friends to create GHD's first commercial title, Cage of Shells.
