Konami recently sent a major signal in an interview with Nikkei: the company is planning to "reboot" three classic IPs—Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Suikoden—describing this as an "important initiative" that forms the pillar of its business.
During an interview discussing the company's future product lineup, Hideki Hayakawa, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, explicitly listed the rebooting of these classic IPs as a strategic core: "Rebooting existing IPs such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Suikoden is a crucial initiative forming the pillar of our business. At the same time, Konami has a strong desire to create new genres and titles."
Although Konami has returned to the spotlight in recent years with titles like Silent Hill 2 Remake, Hayakawa's statement marks the first time the company has officially confirmed, in such clear terms, that it plans to "reboot" these highly anticipated series rather than simply offering "HD remasters" or "remakes."
Hayakawa also emphasized the company's desire to "create new titles," mentioning the new IP Rev. NOiR, scheduled for global release in 2026. This console RPG is being held in high expectation.
It remains unclear whether Hayakawa's mention of "reboot" refers to remakes like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, or entirely new sequels that reimagine the future of the series. However, regardless of the specific form, this statement at least confirms that Konami is far from done developing the Metal Gear series.
For eagerly awaiting fans, immediate comfort comes with the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 this week. This collection features several classic titles from the series, offering players a chance to revisit history.
Regarding Castlevania, Konami has announced that the new series entry, Castlevania: Curse of Belmont, will be released on October 15, 2026, while another title is also in development.
The Suikoden series is making its initial push on mobile, with the mobile game Suikoden STAR LEAP having opened pre-registration on July 1, 2026. Hayakawa's statements hint that the possibility of the series' "resurrection" on console platforms is also part of the plan.
