Today, independent game studio Norsfell from Montreal, Canada, officially announced its new title, Age of Mythology: Retold, at the 3i Initiative showcase. This is a new top-down action RPG that blends light survival and crafting mechanics.
Players will step into a meticulously crafted mythological open world. Here, myths from different civilizations such as Norse, Greek, and Egyptian intersect and coexist. You can explore alone in single-player mode or team up with friends for an epic cooperative adventure.
In Age of Mythology: Retold, players take on the role of "Godborn"—a group of obscure descendants of the gods who unexpectedly survived Ragnarok, with their legends yet to be written. Harnessing the power of the Godborn, players will rise from the ruins of catastrophe, repair the shattered seed of Yggdrasil, and restore balance to the cosmos.
While exploring the world, players can transform into mythical creatures such as phoenixes, manticore, and sirens, crossing mountains, sailing seas, and soaring through the skies. Explore this war-torn, meticulously crafted fantasy world alone or with friends.
As you continually elevate your divinity, you can recruit followers with unique traits, whether they are gods or mortals. Build grand temples, forge powerful equipment, and battle colossal monsters threatening the realms, gradually forging your own legend.
The game is set in a vast world that fuses multiple mythological systems. New Chinese mythology content will be introduced in the future, while ensuring a stable and smooth online experience for Chinese players—something we can't wait to share!
Julian Maroda, Creative Director at Norsfell, stated:
"Following the success of our previous title, Tribes of Midgard, Age of Mythology: Retold is no longer confined to Norse mythology. Instead, it casts its gaze upon a broader horizon, allowing diverse myths from around the world to converge here. We are deeply fascinated by the intricate connections between different mythological legends, which led us to ponder a core question:
What happens when the gods lose the source of their power and the world they depend on collapses? This is our most ambitious project to date. We look forward to sharing this ever-expanding mythological universe and the many stories within its worlds."
The original animation for the game's debut trailer was produced by Powerhouse Animation Studios, known for acclaimed animated series such as Blood of Zeus and Castlevania. The trailer's soundtrack was recorded live by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, featuring an ensemble of over 60 musicians.
