Today, 2K and Gearbox Software released the fourth expansion for Risk of Rain 2—Seekers of the Storm—on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Seekers of the Storm takes fans deep into the cultish world of N'kuhana. To uncover the secrets of N'tormat, players will battle through chilling new regions on the planet Petrichor V, face horrifying new enemies, and reveal powers never before seen in Risk of Rain 2.
The expansion offers powerful curses to overcome, deadly trials to face, and new stages to conquer, including the foul depths of the returning Damp Caves, the villages of the Dark Seas, and the sanctum of the Abandoned Aqueduct.
Two New Playable Survivors: Acolyte & Commando
Players can explore this new content as two brand-new playable Survivors—the Acolyte and the Commando.
The Acolyte is an avatar who trades great cost for greater power. She is a melee blade-wielder who dances across the battlefield, piercing anything in her sight, toying with enemy souls, and bargaining with her own. A portion of the Acolyte's lost health, as well as healing received, is stored for her to reclaim later when striking enemies. Her "Sacrifice" special ability converges her various attacks, marking an enemy and channeling the power of death through them to tear them apart with explosive, massive damage.
The Commando is a returning Survivor from previous Risk of Rain titles, who scoffs at enemy attacks by combining impenetrable defense, tactical mobility, and shield-centric abilities. "Phalanx" blocks Everythinggj in front of his shield and can parry dangerous projectiles, sending them straight back to their sender. "Shield Bash" closes the distance, plunging the Commando directly into the heart of combat to provide cover for other Survivors. Finally, "Rally Point" creates a shockwave that knocks enemies back and leaves behind a barrier that regenerates with each kill.
Conquer N'kuhana's Trials
Players can rely on the power of these new Survivors to challenge N'kuhana's Trials. These time-limited challenges transport Survivors into pocket realms, each with its own unique objectives and rewards. The Trials come in three types: Trial of Survival, Trial of Predation, and Trial of Death, requiring players to endure suffering, hunt prey, or race for their souls. All Trials share a single timer, allowing players to choose whether to proceed to the next Trial or return with the power they've already collected.
Seekers of the Storm also brings a wealth of other new content, including new stages, bosses and enemies, item tiers, music, and more.
