Lighthouse City-Building Game "Sunken Light" Receives First Major Update, Adding Expeditions and Improving Storyline

The lighthouse city-building simulation game "Submerged Light" has received its first major update, adding expedition content and improving the storyline. According to the latest development log released by the development team Fathomlight on Kickstarter, the expedition system is currently the highest priority feature, with core mechanics already functioning properly. Players can dispatch teams to various locations to rescue survivors, gather resources, and explore points of interest.

The exploration range of expeditions is directly tied to the lighthouse. In the early stages of the game, players' fleets can only reach areas near the lighthouse's light coverage. As the lighthouse is upgraded, the explorable distance gradually expands. Expedition teams rely on the lighthouse's light to find their way back; if the light goes out at night, ships will be unable to return. Ships also have durability settings that continuously deplete during voyages. If preparations are insufficient or the light remains off for too long, players may lose both crew members and collected resources.

Changes to the storyline are also noteworthy. The development team revealed that the story in the previous closed beta version was merely placeholder content used to test the narrative system, while the complete prologue has been rewritten to allow players to enter the game world and gameplay more smoothly. The citizen system has also been expanded, adding environmental behaviors such as idle residents gathering to chat. The radio interface has been redesigned; players no longer passively wait for signal decoding but can choose to respond to or ignore signals from an available list—not every voice emerging from static deserves a response. "Submerged Light" is still in development and is scheduled to launch on PC in 2026.
