Set in Japan, the game features "Tokyo City," the largest urban area in the series' history. Players can compete in races and explore the map, striving to become a legendary driver of the Horizon Festival.

The PS5 version is being developed by Panic Button in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios. Panic Button previously contributed to the development of the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5.

The PS5 version supports cross-platform multiplayer and cross-save functionality with Xbox and Steam versions. Content such as EventLab events, houses, and tuning setups created by players on other platforms will be available on day one of the PS5 release. Graphics settings include a Quality mode targeting 4K at 30 fps, and a Performance mode targeting 60 fps.

The game's first paid expansion will launch on all platforms on January 21, 2027, with its content yet to be revealed; a second expansion is planned for release at a later date. The developers also plan to roll out free content updates for all players to coincide with the PS5 version's launch and the expansion releases, with further details to be announced.

Forza Horizon 6 is currently available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and is included with Game Pass via the Microsoft Store. The pre-order bonus for all editions is a tuned Ferrari J50, which players can claim after completing the game's prologue.
