Former Nintendo of America PR Lead Suggests Adding Remakes to Strengthen Switch 2's Year-Round Lineup

Former Nintendo of America PR leads Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang discussed the Switch 2 game lineup on their podcast. Ellis suggested that Nintendo should increase remakes to fill out the annual release schedule. Yang agreed, noting that projects with relatively lower resource requirements could fill the gaps between major new releases.

Ellis cited the return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox in 2026 as examples, arguing that classic titles can still generate player interest if handled with high production values. He also noted that Nintendo has a rich library of older games, and the original Switch lineup was bolstered by numerous Wii U ports, meaning not every title filling the schedule needs to be developed from scratch.

Yang believes that focusing solely on high-budget titles could create gaps in the release lineup. She linked this issue to player complaints about the long intervals between PS5 exclusive releases, suggesting that smaller-scale projects can help sustain the release schedule between major new titles.

The two also discussed the proportion of remakes. Ellis stated that it's important to keep an eye on the balance between remakes and original titles within a year. Yang expressed concern that if remakes continue to yield high returns, publishers might prefer selling older, easier-to-market titles rather than taking risks on new directions.
