The number of minigames in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be determined by Director Naoki Hamaguchi based on the needs of the title, while the team will adjust difficulty and gameplay experience based on player feedback. Addressing the controversy over the number of minigames in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, he stated that the primary consideration is what kind of experience suits the game.
In an interview with Edge, Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the decision to retain a wealth of minigames in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, similar to the original, was his overall directive as director, and he takes full responsibility for it. He emphasized that the quantity of minigames is a separate issue from whether they are easy and enjoyable to play.
Regarding specific experiences, the team values player feedback on difficulty, fun, and engagement, continuing to improve the accessibility of minigames and reduce the pressure to participate. Naoki Hamaguchi hopes players will engage because they find it enjoyable, not because the game requires them to complete these tasks.
Previously, when discussing feedback on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the new title would still feature numerous minigames and side content. However, the team has adjusted the gameplay flow and plans to add difficulty settings for minigames, allowing uninterested players to skip these sections; most rewards will also not be tied to combat items.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 on April 8, 2027. Naoki Hamaguchi described this multi-platform release as an inevitable outcome.
