BULKHEAD, the developer of War Dogs, has announced its seasonal reset plan for the Early Access phase: at the end of each season, players' accumulated cash and current progression will be wiped; however, XP earned during Early Access will be recorded and applied retroactively once the new long-term progression system is introduced.
Unused player deposits will be automatically converted into gold bars based on their value at the end of the season, which can be used to unlock permanent cosmetics. The development team also mentioned a player skill system currently in planning, but this feature remains part of the roadmap toward the full release.
Executive Producer Joe Brammer and Head of UI/UX Design Howard Philpott acknowledged that the current system makes it difficult for players to feel that their invested time yields consistent rewards. The team stated that seasonal resets help address exploits affecting XP and the in-game economy, rebalance progression speed, and test new features; the significant gap between players with around 10 hours and those with 300 hours of playtime was also cited as a reason for these adjustments.
The developers stated that weapon and vehicle skins will be earned through gameplay and will not be sold as paid cosmetics. The first season was intentionally kept short to observe large-scale player behavior; subsequent seasons will be longer, though specific durations have not yet been announced. Season 2 is scheduled to launch on October 15, bringing balance and progression adjustments.
