Recently, developer swordpdf released version 2.00 of PS5SX2, a PS2 emulator for jailbroken PS5 consoles. The new version adds an experimental frame interpolation feature, and PS5 Pro users can also choose to upscale the resolution up to 8 times the original.
The frame interpolation feature requires a 120Hz display device. According to the listed applicable conditions, games running stably at 60 frames per second can be displayed at 120 frames, and games locked at 30 frames per second can be displayed at 60 frames.
Version 2.00 also adjusts the management of multi-disc games: multiple virtual discs or specific playlists can be displayed as a single entry, allowing players to switch discs during gameplay. The update also mentions support for certain cheat disc images and adds experimental NFS network folder connections. The locations of game and BIOS folders can be adjusted on the console, including setting them on external USB storage or M.2 SSDs.
PS5SX2 is a native port of PCSX2 that runs on the console's processor and outputs visuals through a modified Vulkan graphics driver. This update also includes performance improvements and bug fixes for some games. The project code is publicly available under the GPL-3.0 license, with developers referring to it as a hobby project.
