Gigabyte announced that two motherboard product lines will support future processors for Intel's LGA 1700 socket, stating that these processors are expected to launch in early 2027. Rising memory prices, especially the increased cost of switching to the DDR5 platform, have once again drawn attention to upgrade options supporting DDR4.
The LGA 1700 socket debuted in 2021 with Intel's 12th Gen Alder Lake processors, supporting both DDR4 and DDR5 memory. Intel subsequently shifted to new platforms that only support DDR5. Regarding Gigabyte's statement about the 2027 processor lineup, Intel did not immediately respond to requests for comment at the time.
Memory costs are one reason why the DDR4 platform is regaining attention. The original author cited prices seen during shopping as an example: a 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit costs $620, while the corresponding DDR4 kit is $260. These were just the prices for two specific products at the time; DDR5 still holds advantages in speed and energy efficiency.
On the AMD platform, Gigabyte previously released a new series of motherboards for the DDR4-based AM4 platform. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor is being re-released to mark its tenth anniversary.
