GTA 6 Dismissal Case Faces Journalist Identity Controversy, Hearing Briefly Paused

The case involving the dismissal of former Rockstar employees recently paused briefly during a hearing at the Glasgow Employment Tribunal, as the court needed to clarify the identity of journalist Jason Schreier and why contact between an employee and him raised concerns among company management. This case involves disputes over the confidentiality of GTA VI development information.

Schreier currently writes for Bloomberg and has previously reported on Rockstar's undisclosed plans and internal arrangements. Therefore, his name became a point of clarification required during the hearing amid the controversy surrounding confidential information.

Rockstar laid off 34 employees from its UK and Canadian teams in October 2025. The company stated that those involved had shared highly confidential information related to unreleased projects and the development of GTA VI on a Discord server. Former employees denied these allegations, arguing that the dismissals targeted their union activities. Thirty-one former UK employees are currently pursuing legal action through the Glasgow Employment Tribunal.

The hearing also addressed whether an individual codenamed AB had been regularly sharing server activity logs with management, and whether journalists participated in discussions within the server. These claims remain at the stage of mutual statements and court proceedings. Mentioning Schreier's name during the hearing, or proving that someone had contacted him, is not sufficient on its own to prove that confidential information was handed over to him.
