In the live-action Street Fighter movie scheduled for release on October 16, it has been confirmed that the scenes depicting Ryu and Ken's past memories will be rendered in hand-drawn animation.
This live-action film, based on the famous fighting game Street Fighter, incorporates hand-drawn animation to depict scenes from Ryu and Ken's past. The animated segments were created with the aesthetic of traditional 1990s animation in mind.
Director Kaito Sakurai discussed his background, having been born in Japan and spent his childhood in both Japan and the United States. He remarked that Street Fighter serves as a bridge between the two countries and has deep ties to manga and anime. The use of hand-drawn animation in this film is a tribute to anime and represents a true spiritual adaptation of the game.
Takayuki Nakayama, known for his work as the director of Street Fighter 6, commented, "When I first saw it, I wondered if such a presentation method existed, and I thought it was really cool." He praised not only the action sequences but also the excellent portrayal of emotional moments.
Additionally, an animated visual poster was revealed for Gouken, the master of Ryu and Ken. This character is played by Ma Dong-seok. While previous trailers featured photos of a figure believed to be the live-action Gouken, it remains unclear whether he will actually appear in live-action form within the film.
The live-action Street Fighter movie will be released simultaneously worldwide on October 16.
