The PlayStation 3 Android emulator ARMSX3 is now available on Google Play. Previously released on GitHub, the app now offers users an additional download channel, eliminating the need for manual sideloading. The app itself is approximately 122MB, and the PlayStation 3 firmware must be downloaded separately for use.
The development team indicates that to run lighter games, devices require at least a 64-bit processor based on the Armv8.1 architecture, a chipset equivalent to Snapdragon 865 or 870, Adreno 650 or newer graphics hardware (or corresponding Mali-G57 or newer), and at least 8GB of RAM.
The recommended configuration is Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or newer, Adreno 740 or newer, and 12GB of RAM. The development team states that while such devices can run a considerable number of games, CPU-intensive titles or those heavily reliant on the PlayStation 3's Synergistic Processing Units (SPUs) may still fail to run.
Higher-end optimized configurations include Snapdragon 8 Elite or newer, at least 12GB of RAM, and active cooling; custom drivers may also improve performance. Recent updates reportedly enhanced the performance and stability of games like Demon's Souls, though actual performance still depends on device specifications and the specific game.
