Overseas YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits released a video comparing the graphics of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Switch 2 and PS5.
The video provides a side-by-side comparison of PS5 (Performance Mode), and Switch 2's handheld and TV modes. According to the video, the resolutions and other specifications for each console are as follows:
PS5 (Performance Mode): Resolution upscaled to 2160p, 60 fps
Switch 2 (TV Mode): Resolution upscaled to 1440p, approximately 45 fps
Switch 2 (Handheld Mode): Resolution upscaled to 1080p, approximately 45 fps
The most significant visual difference lies in shadow rendering. In scenes where the protagonist looks down, PS5 clearly displays the outlines of shadows cast on the ground, making the shapes of the head and arms easily distinguishable. In comparison, shadow outlines in TV mode are slightly blurred, while those in handheld mode are generally less distinct.
Similarly, in scenes where a bonfire illuminates a cave, the boundary between light and shadow appears blurry in handheld mode.
Differences in water scenes are also noticeable. On PS5, surrounding rocks reflect on the water surface, and the water is very clear; however, in handheld mode, the water appears washed out and flat. TV mode falls somewhere in between. Additionally, some small objects like pebbles and rocks on the ground are omitted on Switch 2. In night scenes, foreground rocks rendered in TV mode and on PS5 do not appear in handheld mode.
It is reported that the Switch 2 version uses frame generation technology based on 30 fps to achieve a display effect equivalent to 60 fps, marking Capcom's first use of frame generation in a Switch 2 game. Players can also disable the frame generation feature in the settings.
In the video, the frame rate stays around 37-47 fps without frame generation enabled, and stabilizes at 60 fps with it turned on.
