Starfield mod author Frederik Weisberg has released an update showcasing a spaceship entering a planet's atmosphere from space, landing on the surface, and then flying back into space. The demonstration featured no loading screens during takeoff and landing. The mod is still under development.
Starfield's original segmented movement and loading screens drew criticism from some players, leading to comparisons with No Man's Sky's real-time takeoff and landing experience. Weisberg stated that he spent about six months adjusting the planetary rendering in Creation Engine 2 and recreating the 3D transition from space to the surface.
This mod supports both manual and autopilot controls. During automatic landing, players can still move around inside the ship, and the ship can also land on water surfaces. When entering the atmosphere, the mod adds visual effects such as heat shield heating, ash trails, and atmospheric light scattering.
Weisberg believes there is still untapped potential in Starfield's technical foundation. Currently, the mod can only be used on PC with the Starfield Script Extender. Its actual stability, compatibility range, and final completion status remain to be confirmed.
