GTA6 Pedestrian Dialogue Handled by Dedicated Team to Create a Realistic and Vibrant Game World

GTA6 developers recently introduced the division of labor for urban environment writing in GTA6: a dedicated team in Los Angeles writes pedestrian dialogue, while writers in New York, Los Angeles, and London are responsible for advertising and comedic content. These arrangements aim to let the sounds and text on the streets collectively constitute the game world.

Rupert Humphries, Senior Vice President of Narrative at GTA6, stated in an interview with LOVE magazine that the team specifically assigned writers and creatives to handle content often referred to as "background noise." In his view, this content is also part of the player's experience when immersed in the game world.

James Horton, Open World Writing Director, stated that the investment in such details for this title is greater than previously envisioned. He hopes that players running through busy streets can hear snippets of different conversations; if they stop to listen closely to one, the dialogue should also feel believable.

Horton also believes that what constitutes foreground and background depends on what the player is focusing on at the moment, and non-player characters encountered on the street should feel like individuals with their own stories. As for how these dialogues will be presented in the game, we will have to wait and see based on the actual content.
