Mafia III: Definitive Edition is now available for free to players who previously purchased the Xbox One version of Mafia III and are now playing on Xbox Series X|S. The new edition includes all DLC, which will also be granted to players who originally purchased only the base game.
This free offer applies to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S players, provided they previously purchased the Xbox One version of the game; Xbox One players are not eligible for this new edition. The new edition is priced at $40, so players purchasing the game for the first time do not qualify for the free offer.
The new edition features improved frame rates and draw distances, adjusted mission progression and checkpoints, and enhanced behavior and scripting for non-player characters and companions. Overall lighting, performance stability, and smoothness have also been improved. This release is not marketed as a remake.
Mafia III was released in 2016, and its initial launch was marred by technical issues and bugs that affected the gameplay experience. This new edition makes several adjustments to improve the experience, and players who own the Xbox One version and play on Xbox Series X|S can receive the new edition and all DLC for free.
