US PlayStation Console Sales Drop 25% YoY in 2026, PS5 Average Price Hits $597

PlayStation console sales in the US have dropped 25% year-over-year so far in 2026, with the average selling price of the PS5 rising to $597 this year. Although the PS5 was the only console with increased sales revenue in the August report, PlayStation's overall sales performance in the US this year is the weakest since 2013.

Data from Circana analyst Mat Piscatella shows that the average selling price of the PS5 in the US is 20% higher than last year. Pricing is considered one of the main factors putting pressure on sales; the PS5 Pro has also contributed to raising the average selling price to some extent.

For comparison, during a similar phase, the PS4 had game bundles priced around $200. Price increases also affect other consoles: the average selling price of the Xbox Series X|S rose 26% year-over-year, and its hardware sales performance in the US remains sluggish.

Component costs and consumer spending pressures are also part of the backdrop for these market changes. Piscatella describes the current state of the US hardware market as fragile.
