Recently, EA producer Jim Vessella revealed at a panel during the Portland Retro Gaming Expo that Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is being prepared for a 30th-anniversary remake. He stated that the team has located master tapes from the game's production era, which can be used to remaster the original live-action footage.
According to plans revealed at the event, the remake will improve upon the original's compressed video quality, run at 60 frames per second, and incorporate some enhancements made by the community since the game's release.
In the original, players assume the role of pilot Christopher Blair, undertaking missions in the war between humanity and the Kilrathi Empire. The game features live-action performances by actors including Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and Tim Curry.
Regarding the scope of the remake, reports have speculated based on the title "Kilrathi Saga" that the project might include the first three games in the series. This remains speculation, and the specific contents have not yet been confirmed.
