Recently, developer JonathanDC64 released the FFCCEOT-Recomp project, enabling the Nintendo DS game "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time" to run natively on PC through static recompilation. The project converts the original ARM machine code into C source code, which is then compiled for the target device, offering a different approach from hardware emulation.
The project repository does not include copyrighted content such as game code, textures, or audio. Upon first launch, users must provide their own ROM image of the US or EU version; the program will perform a SHA-1 verification and generate the necessary files locally for execution.
The graphics engine has been switched to OpenGL, supporting increased rendering resolution, widescreen display, post-processing options, and frame interpolation for higher frame rates. The original dual-screen layout can be changed to picture-in-picture, side-by-side, top-bottom, or separate windows, with controls adapted for both gamepads and keyboards.
Version 0.2.0-alpha adds support for German, French, and Spanish languages in the EU version of the game, and enables online play through alternative servers such as Kaeru WFC and WiiLink WFC. The Windows version also supports running two instances on the same computer for local connection.
The project is still in early testing. The developer currently only guarantees stability in the opening area, and occasional crashes have been reported in EU version online play.
