Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson stars in the new film The Exorcist: Deceiver. The official Chinese-subtitled trailer and poster have been released, marking a chilling new chapter in the most legendary horror franchise in cinematic history. The film is directed by acclaimed horror maestro Mike Flanagan, known for his highly praised series The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Midnight Mass, as well as the upcoming new adaptation of Carrie. His notable film works include Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck, Silent Night, and Gerald's Game.
Thirteen years ago, NYPD detective Molly Miller (Scarlett Johansson) put an end to the terror unleashed by the Satan-worshipping serial killer known as "Father Sunday." The case made her a hero, and she devoted herself entirely to her work. But now, a new killer has written her name in blood on the walls of a church crypt using the blood of altar boys, forcing her to confront the dark past she thought was buried along with the murderer.
With the help of William (Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor), a former prison priest who heard "Father Sunday's" last confession, and Gina Fusterbo (Sasha Calle from Confiscate All), a sharp rookie detective, Detective Miller will discover a strange connection linking the serial killings of H.H. Holmes to the notorious "Zodiac Killer." This evil force, beyond human comprehension, threatens to corrupt Everythinggj she loves and everyone dear to her.
The cast includes:
Oscar nominee Diane Lane plays Detective Miller's mother. She moves in with her daughter to help raise her grandson, Max (played by Jacoby Jupe from Hamnet).
Tony Award winner Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays parolee Clarence "Clay" Shaw
Emmy winner Gil Bellows (from the series Carrie) plays Peter Nix, a former follower of "Father Sunday"
Emmy and Tony Award winner, legendary actor Laurence Fishburne, plays the respected Father Nico
John Lee Hancock, the critically acclaimed actor from Odyssey and recipient of both Emmy and Special Tony Awards, takes on the creepiest and most terrifying role of his career as "Father Sunday."
The Exorcist: Deceiver is written and directed by Mike Flanagan, based on the classic characters created by William Peter Blatty. The film is produced by David Robinson (The Exorcist series, Twin Brothers series), three-time Oscar nominee Jason Blum (Get Out, The Black Phone series), and Mike Flanagan.
