James Watkins, director of "Clayface," stated that Batman will not appear in this horror film, but he hopes the atmosphere of Gotham City will make audiences feel his presence.
Watkins explained that the team drew inspiration from photographs of New York City from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the work of street photographers featured in the documentary "Everybody Street." They aimed to give Gotham a vibrant color palette while conveying a sense of grime, decay, and corruption.
The film centers on Matt Hagen's transformation. Tom Rhys Harries portrays the character, who evolves from a rising star into a shapeshifting monster. "Clayface" is described as an R-rated horror film and is part of Chapter One, "Gods and Monsters," of the DCU, taking place before the first season of the animated series "Creature Commandos."
DC Studios is also developing "The Brave and the Bold," which is set to introduce Batman in the updated cinematic universe. Watkins did not confirm whether Bruce Wayne would make a cameo in "Clayface" or if the film would directly reference him; existing information also does not prove that "Clayface" is a direct prequel to "The Brave and the Bold."
