Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo Latin America, stated that the Switch 2 currently supports both digital and physical games, and the company has no plans to abandon physical releases. More than a year after the Switch 2's launch, Nintendo continues to value consumers' preference for physical products.
In an interview with Brazilian video creators, Bill van Zyll stated that players in Brazil and Latin America show a stronger preference for physical games. Game variety, supply availability, and external circumstances also influence purchasing decisions; he cited the pandemic as an example, noting that digital games were more convenient to use during that time, which may have shifted players' buying habits.
Physical products are easy to collect, lend to others, or resell, while the Switch 2 also offers digital game sharing features. Each format has its own differences, and the ways players save and share games after purchase vary accordingly.
