Some Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds players are demanding that Year 2 content be included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, arguing that pre-launch promotional wording led them to believe these contents were already included in the purchase price.
Sega has revealed details of the upcoming Year 2 content and announced a permanent price reduction for the base game from $70 to $40, with the Digital Deluxe Edition dropping from $90 to $60. Year 2 content includes six collaboration packs. Players can purchase them individually or buy the Year 2 Season Pass for $29.99.
However, some players have objected to the pricing of the Year 2 Season Pass, believing they should not have to pay extra for this content.
According to The Gamer, their reasoning traces back to a promotional tweet posted before the game's launch. This tweet was posted in June 2025, three months before the game's release on September 25 of the same year.
The tweet stated that the Digital Deluxe Edition includes "the base game, Season Pass, all future paid downloadable content, and characters from Sonic Home Adventure." The phrase "all future paid downloadable content" is listed as a separate item outside the Season Pass, which led some players to believe that all Year 2 content should also be provided to them for free.
Taken literally, this appears to be a poorly worded promise. At the time, Sega may not have planned to continue releasing content after the game's first year. However, as of press time, the tweet has not been deleted.
Year 2 content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will begin rolling out on November 3, 2026, with the first paid collaboration pack themed around Godzilla.
The six paid content packs are:
* Content Pack 1 – Godzilla: One track and three vehicles, releasing on November 3, 2026.
* Content Pack 2 – Neon Genesis Evangelion: Rei and Asuka, one track, and three vehicles, releasing in January 2027.
* Content Pack 3 – Virtual Sanrio Rainbow Park: Hello Kitty and Kuromi, one track, and two vehicles, releasing in Q2 2027.
* Content Pack 4 – Sega Land: One track and three vehicles, releasing in Q3 2027.
* Content Pack 5 – Midgar: Final Fantasy VII Remake collaboration, details TBD, releasing in Q3 2027.
* Content Pack 6 – Reload Revival Royal: Persona collaboration, details TBD, releasing in Q4 2027.
The game will also continue to release free DLC, including Bayonetta launching on November 3, a McLaren team collaboration (one new car and one Sonic skin) in late November, and Aigis from Persona 3 Reload, planned for early 2027.
Players who purchase the Year 2 Season Pass will immediately receive the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast controller decal pack, and will also receive vehicles modeled after these three consoles when the Year 2 content launches on November 3.
Players who own both Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 will additionally receive Super Shadow and his "Super Dark Blaze" vehicle.
