Will de Renzy-Martin, the actor who plays Coen, the protagonist of the English version of Blood of Dawnwalkers, discussed generative AI voice acting in a podcast teaser. He believes that while AI can mainly mimic an actor's vocal tone, it struggles to replicate the interactions and performance choices made by actors in the recording studio.
Renzy-Martin stated that actors bring more to their roles than just the voice delivering the lines—they also contribute personality and make choices in response to the director's requests. In his view, even when using generative AI to seek suitable performances, someone is still needed to provide ideas and continuous guidance.
Other game companies have already used AI-generated voiceovers for in-game dialogue. The development team of Blood of Dawnwalkers previously used text-to-speech tools when planning cutscenes, later hiring actors to portray the characters; the final content of the game was not created by AI.
