"Street Fighter" Movie's Chun-Li Actress Discusses Efforts to Perfect the Role and Study Moves

Karina Liang, who plays Chun-Li in the live-action Street Fighter movie, discussed her preparation for the role: she ate 12 eggs a day, had meals every two hours, and studied Chun-Li's various moves from the game, hoping to recreate the character's actions on screen. In the months leading up to filming, her thigh circumference increased by over 6.5 centimeters.

Liang said she was already a fan of Chun-Li and knew the character was beloved by players, so she didn't want to disappoint fans. She hopes new generations of girls can see from Chun-Li that one can possess both strength and femininity—"you can be brave, go after what you want, and fight back." She also mentioned that everyone involved in the film put their heart into it, and she wanted to prepare as thoroughly as possible to have no regrets.

Noah Centineo, who plays Ken, previously stated that Jon Valera studied every character in the film to present their iconic styles from the Capcom games. How these game moves and character styles are ultimately portrayed in the film remains to be seen in the final cut. The theatrical release date is October 16.
