"Star Wars: Galactic Racers" CEO: Reject Mindless Rewards, Games Should Be Challenging

Recently, Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster discussed the challenge design in Star Wars Racer. He hopes the game will test players more, making even a hard-fought fifth place an acceptable result. This is the racing experience the development team aims to deliver.

Reflecting on the Burnout series, Webster noted that receiving rewards and vehicles one after another after races is initially exciting; if the reward pace remains the same, players may eventually stop paying attention to them. He hopes race results in Star Wars Racer will carry more weight.

The challenges in races come from multiple mechanics that require simultaneous attention. According to Webster, players need to monitor boosters, ramjet devices, and ability cooldowns while speeding, sometimes dealing with malfunctions quickly; switching abilities also requires strategic and tactical decisions.

Beyond the high-intensity races, the game also features more relaxed Star Wars world immersion segments, giving players a chance to catch their breath after tense competitions. The Fuse Games team includes developers who previously worked on the Burnout series. Star Wars Racer has launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
