In 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,' Four Burning Drowners Swing Their Arms in Sync, Prompting Players to Name the 'Boy Band'

A The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt player shared an eight-second gameplay video on Reddit: after Geralt ignites a group of Drowners with the Igni sign, four burning Drowners swing their arms in near-perfect unison, moving as if they were dancing. The player invited netizens to name the "boy band" in the clip.

The comments section was soon filled with jokes referencing Drowners and famous band names, with "Swamp Street Boys" gaining the most attention. This scene was encountered by chance by players and is not a new cutscene or event added to the game.

The sudden synchronization of the Drowners' movements also makes the issue of animation syncing among groups of enemies more apparent: when multiple characters play the same animation at the same time, the repetitiveness in combat scenes becomes easy to spot.

Discussing this phenomenon, a developer noted that it can be addressed by adjusting animation playback speeds for individual monsters, offsetting the start points of looping animations, or randomly selecting from multiple animation sets. Inverse kinematics and procedural perturbations can also introduce variation in limb movements.
