Brickworks Games and publisher HypeTrain Digital have launched the public beta test for the remake of "The Hidden Light" on Steam. This open test covers the game's first chapter and will run until October 25. Players can request access and download the test version from the Steam store page.
The remake tells the story of the protagonist searching for his missing brother. He discovers a device for studying human subconsciousness in an empty apartment, and upon activating it, enters a world composed of others' memories, transitional spaces, and Victorian-era equipment. Sound serves both as narrative clues and key to puzzle-solving: players must decipher acoustic puzzles, locate frequencies amidst interference, and use a device called the "Echo Locator."
British actor Nicholas Boulton, who voices the "Professor," provides narration that guides players through the experiments. Compared to the 2008 point-and-click adventure game of the same name, the remake replaces fixed 2D scenes with a first-person 3D environment built in Unity, shifting observation and puzzle-solving toward free exploration.
Before the public test, the development team invited over 1,000 players to participate in closed beta testing. Based on feedback, the team increased movement speed and control responsiveness, simplified inventory navigation, and made the Echo Locator's prompts clearer. The full PC release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
