Stardew Valley Creator Discusses New Game 'Haunted Chocolatier': Still a Town-Building Game

Haunted Chocolatier remains what producer Eric Barone calls a "town game," but its gameplay will be closer to an action RPG. In the interview, Barone stated that adventure, gear hunting, and character progression will be the focus, with monsters and boss battles also appearing in the game.

Using his own work, Stardew Valley, as a reference, Baron said that Haunted Chocolatier is aimed at players who enjoy delving into mines in Stardew Valley. The new title retains the attributes of a town-building game while placing greater emphasis on adventure and combat.

Haunted Chocolatier has been developed solo by Barone since 2021. Set in a haunted house, the game tasks players with running a chocolate shop. Barone also mentioned that the new title will take players to more "metaphysical" places, though he did not specify how this concept will be reflected in the gameplay.

Baron stated on the official website in June 2026 that he hoped all elements of the game would be polished, and he was reluctant to discuss system details too early during development. This interview clarified the gameplay direction, but no release date has been announced, nor have the specific mechanics for combat, management, and town activities been elaborated upon.
