Jeremy Renner Confirms He Won't Appear in 'Avengers 5', Jokes They'll Probably Lose Without Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner stated that he will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Commenting on Hawkeye's absence, he joked that the Avengers might lose without calling on Hawkeye for help, adding, "If they lose, it's their own fault." These remarks were made in jest and do not confirm any plot details or the film's outcome.

Renner made these comments during a Q&A session apparently recorded last month, with clips shared by X user @drdoomarchive. He had previously hinted at a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time he explicitly confirmed that he will not appear in the fifth Avengers film.

Renner has portrayed Clint Barton since Thor in 2011, later appearing in The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War, and starring in the Disney+ series Hawkeye released in 2021. He was absent from Avengers: Infinity War but returned for Avengers: Endgame. The former ended with the heroes suffering a defeat, which lends context to his recent joke about winning and losing.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. It remains uncertain whether Renner will reprise his role as Hawkeye in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. In 2025, he expressed willingness to return for the second season of Hawkeye, but further development of the series appears to be on hold for now.
