Eric Barone, developer of Haunted Chocolatier, admits that while working on his new title, he worried about failing to meet the expectations of Stardew Valley fans. He says that now, with a large player base eagerly awaiting the game, any misstep could disappoint millions.
Baron recalls that when he was making Stardew Valley, he didn't yet have an established audience or a track record of success to uphold, allowing him to explore at his own pace. It started as a small project to improve his programming skills. At the time, he couldn't find a job and never imagined the game would go on to impact so many players.
He hopes to recapture the feeling he had when creating Stardew Valley, but admits that adapting to the current environment is not easy. It has been five years since Haunted Chocolatier was officially announced, and the project continues to progress at Baron's own pace.
When asked which players might enjoy his new title, Baron said that those who liked spending time in the mines of Stardew Valley are particularly likely to enjoy Haunted Chocolatier.
