"Heidi's Gift: The Mountain Calls" is scheduled to launch on Switch and PS5 in January 2027. This is an adventure game themed around life in the Alpine region. Developed by the French indie studio Humble Reeds, the game draws inspiration from the classic children's novel "Heidi," shifting the timeline to Heidi's adulthood and recounting her chapter of leaving the city to return to life in an Alpine mountain village.
Players can raise goats, explore the mountains, and interact with villagers. The core gameplay loop revolves around goat care: players must lead the herd to flower fields to graze, keep them happy with toys and companionship, and then collect goat milk and wool as resources for the village's revival. These materials can be used to craft cheese, woolen clothing, herbal remedies, and wooden crafts, helping villagers improve their lives through trade or gifts. As Heidi contributes more to the village, she unlocks movement abilities like climbing and jumping, allowing her to explore farther areas such as valleys, forests, and high mountain lakes.
Beyond gameplay, the game emphasizes narrative choices. Conversations with her grandfather, childhood friends, and other villagers feature branching paths, where choices influence the direction of relationships. The game encourages players to make their own judgments between "embracing a slow daily life" and "driving change in the village." The PC version is scheduled to launch first on Steam in December 2026, followed by Switch and PS5 versions in January 2027, with Simplified Chinese support available at launch.
