Danny Boyle stated at the London Film Festival that the next film in the 28 Years Later series is currently on hold, pending financing. He hopes screenwriter Alex Garland will return, but the project has not been officially canceled.
Garland is currently busy with the live-action Elden Ring film, which he is directing and writing, so his involvement in the next 28 Years Later film has not yet been confirmed.
Cillian Murphy's Jim has already reappeared at the end of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple: he is teaching his daughter in a fortified shelter before rushing to help escaped characters. There were previous reports that Murphy was in talks to star in the next film in the series; it remains uncertain whether he will participate.
