Indie studio autotroph games announced that the multiplayer party game Haunted Heist launched on Steam on October 13. The game supports 3 to 8 players, who are divided into burglars and mischievous ghosts, competing over gems in a maze-like mansion.
Burglars must find gems scattered throughout the mansion within a time limit and bring them back to their base. They can use flashlights for illumination and pistols for self-defense; mischievous ghosts with night vision abilities aim to hinder the burglars' progress or knock them out directly.
The game features proximity voice chat, limiting communication between team members based on distance, while burglars can also report dangers via walkie-talkies. Downed teammates can be revived with defibrillators; if not saved, they will enter third-person spectator mode. Burglars can use tools and power-ups to replenish resources, improve equipment, or traverse dark areas, though some conveniences consume battery power.
Mischievous ghosts possess skills such as invisibility, silencing, and ambushes, and can use previously recorded player voices combined with disguises to confuse burglars about their teammates' identities. The developers stated that Haunted Heist draws inspiration from multiplayer horror games like Lethal Company and Dead by Daylight.
