"Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster" on Steam Receives Surprise Update After 7 Years, Fixing the Infamous Green Screen Issue

Square Enix released an update for the Steam version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on October 1, marking the first update in approximately seven years. The company stated that multiple bugs were fixed; player feedback indicates that the long-standing green screen glitch during cutscenes appears to have been resolved.

The Steam update notes did not list specific fixes. Based on community analysis and post-update player reviews, the green screen glitch seems to have been resolved, with some players also reporting improvements to previous crash issues. These specific effects have not been individually confirmed by the developers.

The green screen glitch causes parts or the entire screen to turn green during cutscenes. Although the game continues to run, players may struggle to see character actions in key story scenes. Previously, players addressed this by regularly restarting the game, lowering graphics settings, or using general patches that expand the virtual address space available to 32-bit applications.

This HD Remaster includes Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, with the story and cutscenes of Final Fantasy X being a core part of the experience. The Steam version was released in 2016 and offers assistive features such as High Speed Mode, Battle Enhancements, and Encounter Adjustments.
