Modder Claims Resident Evil 2 Leftover Code Hints at Unreleased Mode, Possibly Planned for 11 Characters

Mod author Keff0 stated that he discovered clues about an unreleased Rogue mode in the leftover code of the physical PS4 version of Resident Evil 2. According to his interpretation, this mode was planned to feature 11 playable characters, each with different starting equipment.

The playable characters reportedly included Leon, Claire, Ada, Hunk, Chris, and others. Descriptions of the gameplay indicate that players would start from a safe zone called the Base Area, adjust their equipment at a shop, and then choose routes of varying lengths to enter the Raccoon City Police Department. Item locations would be randomized each run, and areas might be connected via portals.

After returning to the base, players could sell acquired items, purchase equipment, and strengthen their characters. File clues also mention a leveling system from 1 to 50, enemy levels, special points, inventory and storage capacity, as well as a results screen at the end of each run.

The clues describing a structure of random exploration and shop-based progression differ from the already released DLC, "Ghost Survivors," which mainly consists of preset challenge stages. Whether Rogue was related to the early development of "Ghost Survivors" remains speculative. Capcom has not responded, and it has not been confirmed to what extent Rogue was developed or whether it evolved into "Ghost Survivors."
