Glen Schofield, creator of The Callisto Protocol and head of Striking Distance Studios, stated in an interview that publisher Krafton had promised the studio an additional three months of development time, only to retract that commitment, forcing the team to launch the game as originally scheduled.
Schofield recalled that this change occurred during the pandemic. At the time, several employees fell ill each month, a small team in Spain sometimes halted work entirely, and remote collaboration increased communication and production burdens. He believed that with an additional three months, the game could have been delayed from December 2022 to March 2023.
The interview also covered experiences with physical releases and the burden of developing versions for last-generation consoles. Upon its release, The Callisto Protocol received mixed reviews regarding its technical performance and combat design.
Schofield stated that the team continued to produce game updates and DLC afterward, releasing numerous patches.
