Recently, Famitsu published a pre-release feature on Stupid Never Dies. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the charm and various game systems of this title, dubbed a "rapid-growth action RPG." It also includes introductions to the cast of characters and summarizes key points for playing the free demo, helping players make the most of the two-hour opening segment.
Developed by GPTRACK50, the studio led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Stupid Never Dies will launch on PS5 and Steam on October 22. The developers have released a free demo titled "First Bite," which allows players to experience roughly the first two hours of the game. Save data from the demo carries over directly to the full release. The game deliberately avoids being a high-difficulty, punishing Souls-like title, instead focusing on a unique rapid-growth loop. Each time you enter a dungeon, your character's level resets to 1, but the cumulative experience from previous enemy kills continuously accelerates your leveling speed, allowing you to become significantly stronger in a short amount of time after repeated challenges.
Core game mechanics include "Style Devouring," which allows you to absorb enemies to steal their abilities, and "Body Hack," which lets you modify body parts. Players can acquire combat moves from various monsters such as werewolves and vampires, making strategic choices during timed dungeon explorations: whether to risk delving into higher-difficulty levels or to safely build up strength before progressing further. Combat eschews traditional locking, blocking, and dodging mechanics, favoring a direct, aggressive playstyle. The overall art style features hand-painted 3D visuals, blending retro monsters with hyper-technological elements, while the setting reimagines real-world cities and historical eras with exaggerated flair.
The feature also includes content from previous interviews, where the creators expressed their desire to craft a fresh zombie story themed around punk and love. The protagonist is David, a weak young zombie who challenges the Monster King deep within the dungeons to revive the human girl he loves.
