The first trailer and poster have been released for Greta Gerwig's new Netflix film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew. The film is scheduled for an IMAX theatrical release on February 12, 2027, and will stream on Netflix starting April 2. Directed by Greta Gerwig (Barbie), the film stars Meryl Streep, Daniel Craig, and Carey Mulligan.
Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, the film starts at the beginning of the Narnia timeline, with the trailer showcasing a 1970s glam rock style.
The film is adapted from C.S. Lewis's 1955 novel of the same name. Although published later in the Narnia series, the story takes place at the beginning of the timeline, covering the creation of Narnia and the origins of the character who later becomes the White Witch.
The mirrored costumes, elaborate sets, and David Bowie-inspired looks in the trailer differ from the familiar image of previous Narnia films. Gerwig has stated that she aims to make Narnia a rock opera, as the world was originally created through music.
The story revolves around Digory and Polly from London. With the help of magic rings studied by Uncle Andrew, they discover the possibility of traveling to other worlds and awaken Jadis.
Daniel Craig plays Andrew, Emma Mackey portrays Jadis, and Meryl Streep voices Aslan the lion. The film is set for a theatrical release on February 12, 2027, followed by its Netflix debut on April 2 of the same year.
