John "Bucky" Buckley, Head of Publishing and Communications at Pocketpair, stated that developing spin-offs like Palworld: Pal Farm independently allows them to design gameplay around their own concepts and create distinct identities. While the team hopes for success, maximizing revenue quickly is not the driving force behind their creative decisions.
This decision stems from the team's consideration of spin-off gameplay. When asked why they didn't incorporate different types of experiences into the main Palworld game, like Fortnite does, Buckley explained that some concepts are better suited for independent development, allowing for gameplay systems, pacing, and overall experience to be tailored around specific ideas.
Palworld: Pal Farm is one such example. Rather than including the farming experience as a mode within the main game, the team believed that developing it separately would give the title more room to establish its own unique identity.
Buckley emphasized that choosing independent development doesn't mean other games using different strategies are wrong. The main Palworld game remains important to the team, while spin-offs allow players to engage with its world and characters from different perspectives. Palworld: Pal Farm is planned to launch on PC first, at least initially.
