Valve confirmed via a Steam announcement that production of the Index VR headset has stopped. Remaining headsets, controllers, and accessories will be sold at new prices until inventory is depleted. The standalone headset is priced at $399.20, excluding controllers and base stations.
When Index VR launched in 2019, the standalone headset was priced at $499. The previously listed $999 bundle, which included related equipment, has been delisted and is no longer available with any bundle discount. To assemble a setup matching the original bundle configuration, you can't just look at the current headset price.
Among replacement parts, the left-hand controller is priced at $119.20, and the cable at $103.20; the page did not list a replacement for the right-hand controller at the time. Buyers needing controllers and base stations may need to seek them from other channels, with no information yet available on pricing or stock from those sources.
Valve designer Lawrence Yang had previously stated that production of the Index would cease, and this Steam announcement further confirms the discontinuation. The Steam Frame has recently been released; currently, remaining stock of Index VR is being cleared out.
