A Windows Central author reflects on his console purchasing history: Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Alan Wake 2 successively prompted him to buy an Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. This personal preference for Remedy Entertainment's works has shaped his hardware choices over the years.
The author first encountered Max Payne on his home PC, enjoying the game's slow-motion gunfights, which led him to follow Remedy. Later, Alan Wake motivated him to save up for an Xbox 360. He felt the game continued the blend of third-person shooting and strong narrative, while adding a mechanic of using light sources to break enemy defenses; compared to Max Payne, he found its writing more sincere.
During the Xbox One era, Quantum Break's time-manipulation abilities, live-action footage, and visual presentation once again became his motivation for purchasing the console. At the time, he also accepted the Xbox One's positioning as an all-in-one entertainment device.
Thirteen years later, Alan Wake 2 prompted him to purchase an Xbox Series X and upgrade to a 4K OLED TV with HDR support. He praised the sequel's intricate story, visuals, and series-connected content, while noting some issues present at launch. In his view, the dual-protagonist investigation structure aids the narrative but can disrupt the pacing during replayability.
Remedy has announced the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake. As for whether this title will influence his next console choice, the author has not yet given a definitive answer.
