Game video creator KUN responded to another creator, Yoshida Seisakusho, who criticized esports. Yoshida Seisakusho had previously referred to esports as ordinary video game competitions on social media. In a video released on October 12, KUN stated that while he recognizes the value of esports, this perspective overlooks the specific issues faced by tournaments and players.
KUN's biggest concern is that esports rely on games operated by for-profit companies. A game may lose popularity or cease operations; even if it remains popular, frequent updates can change character balance and the competitive environment. He mentioned his past experience with team battles in Battlefield 4, suggesting that a game's competitive热度 and gameplay environment may not be sustainable in the long term.
He also mentioned that hosting competitions involves developer licensing and fees. KUN compared it to football matches, arguing that esports are more susceptible to the influence of intellectual property rights and the popularity cycles of games.
Based on these judgments, KUN holds a pessimistic view on the long-term prospects of esports and does not agree that becoming a professional player is a stable career choice. He believes players may face short career windows and pressure to achieve results early on.
