NVIDIA announces that DLSS 5 is now faster and less resource-intensive, and will be applied to new games including Hogwarts Legacy.
NVIDIA DLSS 5 model size reduced by 24%, runs faster
Today, NVIDIA announced a major update to DLSS 5, including not only faster models but also support for new games and RTX Remix.
According to NVIDIA, the new NVIDIA DLSS 5 models released this month are twice as fast as the models first unveiled at GTC 2026 in March. The models released in September were already much faster, but NVIDIA had hinted at developing even faster models, so we can expect a series of DLSS 5 updates in the future.
Therefore, NVIDIA used the new model to fine-tune the training data with a 24% reduction in parameters, shrinking the model size to just 118 million parameters. This not only means the model runs faster, but also significantly reduces resource usage. At 4K resolution, using the new model reduces VRAM usage by 20%.
Additionally, DLSS 5 games like NBA 2K27 now run over 30% faster, with frame rates jumping from 65 FPS to 90 FPS in 4K scenarios.
DLSS 5 October Model Update
Since the release of DLSS 5 alongside NBA 2K27 in September, NVIDIA has nearly doubled the execution speed of DLSS 5 models. NVIDIA achieved this by optimizing training data and reducing the model size by 24% (down to just 118 million parameters), while also reducing VRAM usage at 4K by 20%. Although performance improvements vary by game, NBA 2K27 sees a performance boost of over 30% compared to its September release.
In terms of game lineup, DLSS 5 is currently only officially available in NBA 2K27 as the launch title for the technology. Although modders and the community have already integrated DLSS 5 into many games, applications, videos, and various media, today NVIDIA announced two upcoming games that will officially support the technology.
First up is Hogwarts Legacy, which will receive a DLSS 5 update on November 5. Later in November, Where Winds Meet will also receive an official DLSS 5 update.
