Minecraft Java Edition Test Snapshot Update: Jukebox Playlist Looping, Fragile Ice Breaks When Stepped On

Mojang Studios has released Minecraft Java Edition Test Snapshot 26w4a. The jukebox now includes a playlist feature in this test, and a new block, "Fragile Ice," has been introduced: when stepped on by players or most mobs, it gradually cracks and eventually shatters.

Placing a chest directly above a jukebox causes the records inside to play in slot order; empty slots and other items are skipped, and playback loops back to the start after reaching the end. Trapped chests and various copper chests also work. After each track ends, the jukebox swaps with the next record in the chest; removing the currently playing record skips to the next one. If there are no records in the chest, the record already in the jukebox will repeat.

Fragile Ice is part of the underground "Ice Caves" coming in the next content drop, naturally generating only in certain cave fissures. A new zombie variant, the "Frostbiter," can walk across Fragile Ice without breaking it. Players can obtain Fragile Ice using Silk Touch or generate it through specific interactions between water flows and blue ice.

The snapshot also adds exclusive sound effects for ice-type blocks and adjusts the rules for freeze damage taken by zombies, drowned, and husks. These features are still in testing and are targeted for the final "Holiday Drop" of 2026. When enabling snapshots, players should back up their worlds or run them separately from their main saves.
