In addition to updating the DLSS 5 model, NVIDIA has released a brand-new Frame Generation model targeted at "Performance Mode," designed to improve gaming performance on RTX 50 and RTX 40 series GPUs. Game performance can increase by up to 35%, albeit with a slight drop in image quality.
NVIDIA achieves this by updating the AI models used for Frame Generation. Currently, MFG (Multi-Frame Generation) and standard Frame Generation technologies use two models. The first model utilizes game data (such as motion vectors and depth information) to understand object movement between two rendered frames; the second model calculates optical flow for elements like UI or ray-tracing effects.
After selecting Preset C in the NVIDIA App, the second AI model will be replaced by a new model that is faster and smaller. This allows applications or games to deliver higher frame rates across all Frame Generation, Multi-Frame Generation, and Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation modes compared to the original model. Although image quality may slightly decrease, this mode is well worth trying for users seeking higher performance.
In its performance charts, NVIDIA uses the RTX 5060 to compare the performance differences between the old and new Frame Generation modes. The results are quite impressive, and the model is also compatible with RTX 50 and RTX 40 series GPUs.
To apply Preset C to your games:
Download and install the latest NVIDIA app update via the website or within the application itself.
Open the app, go to "Settings" --> "About", and check "Opt-in to access beta or experimental features"
Wait a moment for the beta update to finish downloading, then click the message on the screen to install it.
After installation, open the "Graphics" section of the new NVIDIA app beta, then select a game that supports Frame Generation, Multi-Frame Generation, or Dynamic Frame Generation (alternatively, select "Global Settings" at the top of the window to apply it to all supported games in your library).
Scroll down to "Driver Settings"
Click "DLSS Override - Model Preset"
Click "Customize"
Open the "Frame Generation" dropdown menu and select "Preset C".
Click "Apply"
